RIBERA MATADERO The sequel to our collaboration with Matadero Madrid continued in the summer of 2013. We'd been invited to curate six sessions that will take place in the central patio with activities for all kinds of audiences and betting on independent initiatives that are developing in Madrid. This year we wanted it to be not so much about seeing as about doing, and we encouraged you to participate actively in in the programme's different proposals (detailed below), including the popular audiovisual call Foto o no pasó (Photo or it didn't happen). How to participate (Spanish only).

August 3
Anclas y chanclas
(Anchors and flip-flops). We welcome the summer with a bunch of aquatic activities and refreshing stimuli. Everyone is invited to come with their bathing suit, rubber ducky and water sandals but most of all an arsenal of water balloons and pistols for a playful battle of the splashes. Live music will be delivered by bedroom pop duo Salto de cama and all attendees will be able to go through our sailor tattoo parlor (get yourself an anchor, mermaid or swallow) with Deivid Saenz and our photo-call in the blow-up swimming pools. Let’s see who comes out wetter.

August 10
La invasión de las lanas
(Invasion of the yarns). Demonstrating the collective power of urban knitting, the collective formed by UdonWool and Las Valentinas will invade the Escaravox structures with their yarns and needles, willing to help show the wonderful world of knitting to any attendees that wish to participate in this yarn bombing. They will arrive with their hands full of granny squares, decorations and other pieces made of recycled materials to develops collectively throughout the session. We encourage you to bring your own materials to make the most out of the experience, though you may also observe the construction process while having a cold beer or interact with the monthly meeting of Punto Cuqui, taking place in the terrace for the occasion and who will help the audience members no matter their skill level. Also, the interventions will be left open to grow throughout the rest of the summer.

August 17
Reverbena
Following Madrid’s holiday of La Paloma, we’ll give this traditional celebration a twist with an esoteric verbena that delves into the mysterious, the playful and the participative. A celebration dreamed by Begoña Olavarrieta and her small army of collaborators who will take us into unknown worlds while we move our feet. Explore with the water tasting (each an enigma), dig into a Tarot or rune fortune-telling, pose in the passe de tête or relax with an energetic harmonisation. DJ K-SETS will make us move with his selection of working class music in rigorous cassette format, and whoever dances with the biggest of joys will be a winner in the night’s dance contest.

August 24
Corte latino
(Latin cut). Action collective Elgatoconmoscas proposes building a bridge across the latin community of Legazpi and the art centre that hosts us through a day of latin taste. Starting with an encounter to eat Pica Pollo at 2pm, the next meeting point is at 4:30pm to visit the hairdressers and beauty salons of the Dominican block that will showcase their variety of haircuts, drawings, manicures and make-up for those who fancy a change. Each new look will be documented to show a before & after during the night. At 9pm the session will begin in Matadero’s square with the screening of pictures from the day and a concert by Tu Francis with his bachata orchestra. A party that hopes to unite audiences and bring neighbours closer through music and latin culture. Upon finishing the session the party will continue! Past midnight we will head to the nearest Dominican bars. This project is a part of Latinoamérica Go.es by Elgatoconmoscas, begun in El Ranchito with Arquitectura Expandida in 2011.
Note: the meeting point at 2pm, 4;30pm and midnight will be the entrance to Matadero Madrid: Paseo de la Chopera 14. To join at any other time please call: 605551663 / 680171160 / 638847952.

August 31
Friki-visión
(Freak-o-vision). Three cultural agents from Madrid’s underground will open our corneas with a selection of videos rescued from the world wide web around bizarre and hilarious themes. The charismatic trio will be formed by Nicolai Troshinsky (illustrator and animator), Kika Piper (co-owner and agitator of Café Molar) and Roi Prada (digital designer) who will present and comment the collection of clips like friends hanging out. As a prelude, Troshinsky will present his short animated film Astigmatismo, made with experimental techniques and an international team of collaboratores, a 100% independent and hand-made production.

September 7
Foto o no pasó
(Photo or it didn’t happen). We’ll bid summer farewell celebrating memories and visions: showing the results of our audiovisual call for submissions Foto o no pasó and inviting everyone to come and vote their favourite snapshots and videos. The three categories (Photography “My friends are ugly but I love them", Video “5 seconds of splash" and Vintage photo rescue “Those wonderful years") will receive an exclusive trophy designed by Luis Úrculo after the in situ voting process. Our wonderful master of ceremonies Supremme de Luxe will put on a show during the vote count and deliver the trophies to those chosen by the audience members, who may cheer for their audiovisual heroes and toast, beer in hand.

Popular audiovisual call Foto o no pasó (Spanish only, sorry).
